About the car
The ‘People's Car’ had many variants from 1938 until the end of its production in 2003, and although the sedan version was the most practical and popular, the success of the Volkswagen spurred the creation of a convertible version.
The convertible was manufactured by Karmann, a body company founded in the 19th century, which began production of the first VW Beetle convertibles in 1949.
This 1300 model was sold new in January 1966 in Chicago, USA. It retains all its original features and is ‘full matching numbers’, i.e. it has the same 1285 cc, 50 hp engine with which it left the factory in 1965.
It's painted Yukon Yellow, with a black bonnet and upholstery, and has white tyres - just like the 1966 options! It comes with the original sales receipt and a certificate of historical interest from the Portuguese Antique Automobile Club.
All Matching Numbers.
